Hitting up the zip lines is just one of many family-friendly things to do in BC with kids this summer.

Hitting up the zip lines is just one of many family-friendly things to do in BC with kids this summer.

Travelling with children can be an adventure all by itself. Between keeping the kiddos entertained and finding kid-approved dining and lodging accommodations along the way, road trips are never boring.

Once you get to your destination, though, it’s a whole new ball game. Now it’s time to find some fun things to do that will not only beat boredom but will also keep the young ones happy. After all, a happy kid is a peaceful kid.

Here are just a few of the ways you can keep yourself and the kids entertained during your next stay in British Columbia:

Experience East Kootenay Zip Lining

For kids weighing 50 pounds or more, a ziplining course is the perfect place to spend the day. At Mineral Mountain Ziplines, Fairmont Hot Spring Resort’s newest attraction, the whole family can tackle six different lines. A few are shorter to help you or your younger zippers work up the courage to take on the longer runs. All of them have stunning panoramic views you don’t want to miss.

And don’t worry. Ziplining is completely safe. Besides being provided with properly fitted safety gear, the course is full of highly trained team members and fantastic guides who make sure the safety of the guests is priority number one.

Some of the ziplining features that your kids will be so excited to tell their friends when they get home include:

  • Lines are nearly 150 feet above ground
  • The longest line is 1,500 feet long
  • Reaching speeds of up to 80km/h is not unheard of
  • Hoodoos decorating the stunning mountain and lake views

Check Out the Activity & Experience Centre

Once you’ve had your fill of ziplining, take the family over to Fairmont Hot Spring Resort’s Activity and Adventure Centre. This one-stop shop offers some of the best local tourist attractions that’ll keep the kids busy for days.

Drop your kids off at Base Camp where they can bounce the day away or enjoy a round or two of mini golf. If you're in the area for a while, you can even register them for day camps where they’ll get the chance to learn about things like wilderness survival or the world Olympics.

Some of the other boredom-bashing adventure tours available at the Centre include:

  • Geocaching (the world's largest treasure hunt)
  • Horseback riding
  • Hiking
  • Kayak tours and rentals
  • River tubing
  • Fishing
  • Biking
  • ATV rentals
